A lovely day again Ron, chilly but sunny and lots of hole digging.  Your finds cleaned up nice, especially the hook.
I cleaned my finds last night and discovered that the ring is a copper alloy 'posy', inscribed with the words, 'I Like My Chois'. (I Like My Choice).  Any idea of date guys?
The remainder of my finds included four Roman coins a few British, a Jetton, a buckle and an odd band with numbers and letters inside and out?  And a bag full of bullets and scrap for the weigh-in.  After walking back to the car, with muddied feet, we sat down and relaxed with a warming bowl of Rons homemade stew, whilst we chatted about the days finds and what the future may hold for us.
Cheers and Happy Digging everyone!!!  Tom.

Unable to attach photos, so will put some in next post.

I like the posy ring, copper or not.

Could you upload a closer image of the left-most roman (both sides) - I can't quite make out the emperor, but think it is Maximianus.

Hi Probono
As requested, please see attached photos of two of the Roman coins I found saturday;  I mentioned to Ron that the one you've specifically asked for looked a bit unusual to me as I've not seen this emperor before.  Is he common?
All id's are greatly appreciated thank you.
Cheers and Happy Digging!!!  Tom.

The top Roman is similar to this: Maximianus Silvered AE Antoninianus. Lyons mint. IMP MAXIMIANVS AVG, radiate bust left in consular robes, holding globe / PAX AVGG, Pax standing left, holding Victory on globe and sceptre. Mintmark B. Cohen 443; RIC V 399; Sear 13155 var. or could be RIC 398.

Could you take a clearer picture as there are several different versions of this type.

Jon

They're not rare - he was the colleague of Diocletian, but given that Britain was cut off from the roman empire at the time, as it was going through one of its regular episodes away from the continent (this time under Carausius) they are not so common over here - and this one has decent silvering on it. I quite like the left facing ones in consular robes too - the more common bust types are right facing.

The other roman is a Valens or Valentinian Gloria Romanormum type and dates to 364-367AD

Thanks guys for the lovely comments and the excellent id's.  We tend to find a wide variety of coins and artefacts that have stood the test of time on the farms that we are currently searching and it's great that we have this forum to display them and have the experts within to identify them for us. Cheers and Happy Digging !!!   Tom.

A new camera is on my Christmas wishlist so that I can take some decent close-ups of my finds.   Anyone suggest a small, palm sized digital camera suitable for such a purpose?
