Found this double headed serpent this morning. Looks old but I've no idea. Anybody help?  ???

Do a google search for ‘Roman snake buckles’ there’s quite a few to choose from but only a handful that resemble yours.
There is one in particular that is very similar with the raised bit in the middle. It’s listed as Post Medieval possibly military and was found in Cornwall.

I will comment though yours looks like it’s got ears ! Could be a horned viper but it looks a bit doggie to me.

Best of luck with the research. Patience has its own reward  ;D

Hi Val,

Thanks for the information. From doing some research online, i'm now pretty certain it's a medieval sword strap buckle which would fit in context with other finds found in the same field.  ;D

Almost identical one found here - http://www.glevumdetecting.co.uk/newbuckles/snake.htm (http://www.glevumdetecting.co.uk/newbuckles/snake.htm)

Generally thought to be post-medieval:

Sorry Andre. Only just seen your message!

I'm pretty certain it's part of a sword belt buckle and probably 16th-17th Century. Cool little thing  ;D

Haha yep I'm always getting followed by sheep  :o

Looks like the one I recorded with UKDFD and mentioned in this thread..

They appear to be early ones.

One thing for sure they dont come up very often.

Happy Hunting,

Jerry.
