Title: Sssi and detecting near them Post by: rainyday on November 09, 2017, 04:49:18 PM Can someone advise please.
I've got a permission that I've had for some time. I know that there is a sssi on part of the land so done so e research and after going on the cadw site found the area, it has a red box drawn around it showing the boundry of it, how near or far should I stay from This? Any advise please chaps? Thanks D Ps I have also printed this out to take with me should I be challenged. Ask the landowner what is special about the area. If its flora don't go disturbing the soil but if it's fauna give it a wide berth during the breeding season. I've done work in a few and general rule of thumb is leave well alone between April through to October. So is it scheduled rather than sssi I guess?

I bet you can ask any FLO or Archi, and they would come up with anything from stay of the site altogether and a 100 Mtrs, the latter is what my FLO suggested when searching up to a scheduled site.

D Title: Re: Sssi and detecting near them Post by: celticspikey on November 10, 2017, 03:26:12 PM Rainyday, download Magic Maps on here scheduled areas and SSis are shaded as long as you don't stray on the shaded areas you will be ok... Just have to be accurate with your map reading.
A tumili or barrow is easily identified if above ground some settlement sites or villas or other schedules can be just part of a large field so that's when you have to be carefully searching.
