Hi to all....i was getting quite fed up with having my finds bag either around my waist,which i seemed to be always pulling back up,or,if I had it slung over my shoulder it would always slide around and get in the way when I was Digging out a target...SO..
I decided to do away with the strap and attach my finds bag by way of detachable plastic clips which I cheaply obtained from E -BAY...
Firstly I marked out with a pen where I was going to attach the clips,then cut of some webbing to the length required, attached the webbing through the clips, initially I used a spot of instant glue to the webbing onto the pre marked area.
Then I sewed around the pre stuck webbing to ensure good security.
And now for the finds bag I repeated the same procedure.
Now I have a finds bag that is totally detachable,and stays where it should be,and it doesn't move around...its BRILLIANT.
Well what do ya think ?
P.S:The actual waistcoat was ex military, initially it had that many ammunition pockets it was virtually unusable,so I stripped off the pouches,and initially used the waistcoat as a very comfortable bungee harness waistcoat.all the modifications subsequently followed.

I think it's a brilliant idea dingdong !

I used to use a belt around my waist but it kept pulling my trousers down. I've recently been trying a shoulder bag but it falls in front every time you bend over to dig. I'm not really happy with either of these but I do like your idea of a waistcoat/gilet with finds bag attached. Think I may try to sort out something similar that can go over the top of my coat.

It is a very good idea Chris and nicely done. However I predict a small annoying problem in attaching it to your top. As soon as you get a bit of weight in the finds bag it'll drag your top down on one side.
It's a problem I have carrying too much in one pocket and it really is irritating. There's only one thing for it, put one on the other side to balance  ;D or just keep it for the gold coins  ::)

No problem Val...already sorted...I have seen on a patch of Velcro..one on the back of the finds bag,and the other on the side of the trousers I use purely for Detecting ..but thanks anyway ..👍

I once carried a 7lb lump hammer around the field in mine  ::)

Cheers Val, normally with the iron scrap I walk over to the hedge and "replant"it..😁!after all sometimes it's enough to carry the bloomin spade !!.. LOL 😁!!

My setup idea borrowed off Deadlock is a blackhawk safety belt 50mm wide webbing belt with velcro and buckle fastening (cheap chinese ebay copy) with ex army canteen bag. Plenty big enough for good days finds. I've also made a spade hanger that loops over the belt. Ideal for cold days as I can keep my left hand in my pocket ! Finally my Garrett probe in its holster also fits om the belt.
Bag and belt cost about £15 total

In answer to your question regarding the wearing of the waistcoat in Summer.
Yes it's perfectly fine,the Actually,as its designed to be worn in desert warfare situations.
It's very,very light and by virtue of its "Airtex"construction it stays very cool and comfortable.
I normally wear a t-shirt underneath and it allows me to comfortably detect for quite a few hours.

Hi Ian(Radnor bandit) many thanks for going to the trouble of putting up a photo of your "spade holder"...now it gives me a better picture of "how & what"...its also got me thinking as to how I can utilize it without using a belt !!!..it sure is a great idea for keeping your hand warm in those cold winter days ahead.

No problem Chris. I can take the holder off the belt and the rear loop fits snugly into my trouser waistband with a little light padding.

I bought a pair of "wide American braces"Brilliant!!...go for ones that are button on,not clip on's..as they can come unclipped !!! Disaster in the middle of a good signal dig !! LOL 😁
Get your other half(no not Tom!!... LOL 😁..to sew on some sturdy buttons on your trousers..and hey presto !!..you will never have to loose your pants in the middle of the field again !!!..take care,...and good hunting (both)...👍
