Title: Are Two Heads Better Than One?
Post by: roughneck on September 10, 2017, 10:52:34 AM
Hi Folks
Me and Ron set out early yesterday morning to search the fields that produced some excellent finds for us last week.
The weather was fairly mild, with a mixture of sun and fluffy clouds so we wandered about in our fleece tops.  First finds were mainly lead and bits of bronze and copper, then we searched another section of field and found four silver hammies between us.  Then it was off to the Roman field on top of the hill which is still in stubble, bah!!.  Once again we seemed to find bits and pieces until the Roman bronze started to show, I think we had eight or nine between us when the next dig produced a lovely silver Denarius.  I didn't realise until I showed it to Ron that it had a head on both sides of the coin.  I thought it must be a forgery, but Ron said he had seen it on the internet before.  Nice condition too!! A double header of Antoninus Pius and his adopted son, Marcus Aurelius.  A definite first for me!!
Trouble with changeable weather is that when we are head down, concentrating and listening to the various sounds emitting from our Deus's is that we are not watching the weather.  Next thing we had a cloudburst, we ran (more jogged) for the car, but by the time we got to it we were soaked through.  That was basically the end of our detecting day as we could see a huge storm rumbling its way across the western sky, and heading in our direction.  So it was pack the gear away and head for the hills.   Cheers and Happy Digging !!  Tom.

Thanks guys for the lovely comments.  Those bronze coins of yours cleaned up nice Ron.  Already looking forward to our next visit, which will probably be next weekend.  Can anyone throw some light on the lead object in the photos please?
