Interesting find and may well be a fertility symbol as it appears to represent the female reproductive organs.

Definitely one for the FLO

Quality item

Cheers
Neil

Interesting find, if you have a powerful magnet try and find out if it has iron cast within the bronze.

yes, indeed...there is iron cast within, what does this tell us?

Your item looked Ironage to me I was thinking pommel that's why I asked about the iron core, when I got your reply I contacted a
Celtic expert to look at it he thinks its a Hallstatt dagger chape or pommel from the last half of the 5th century BC so a great find indeed!!
he also sent a plate photo of one like yours but I'm not able to attach it using a kids laptop.

Just had a look on the PAS website there's a Iron age dagger chape like yours recorded, its dated 800-300 BC so yours fits in well ;)

Great find.

Better man than me, I would not want to part with it lol. In my experience stuff  donated rarley goes on display for public to see, more like a box in a basement for study and accademics to look at
Super find  though amd well done to Dale he loves Iron Age / Celtic

Please don't donate it to a museum...what Celticspikey said is so very very true,it will sit in a box,in a drawer, where only a privileged few will ever see it.... ::) :'(

Yep Dale 6 months for you 6 for me..lol. I guess Myke you could put it on display but still retain ownership! But I'm pretty sure I remember some time back some one done that and the item got moved and mislayed some where.
Also I recall some war medals being donated to a museum, only to be auctioned off to make room. What ever you decide enjoy it....... ;)

Blimey....think i might re think!  Have a mind to make a replica dagger and create a proper display  for grandkids....and maybe their  school on history day.
