Title: Charlie and a half moon!
Post by: handyman [Alan} on August 19, 2017, 02:31:25 PM
Had a nice morning out with diggerdave this morning. We are both puzzled as to what the silver patterned half moon object actually is. Any ideas?    Otherwise, enjoy the Charles 1st sixpence!

All suggestions are welcome.

Is it Silver Al ?

Looks like the rear part of a revolver like an old colt 45, the bit by the hammer to me...

hi Andy ... thanks for the reply. Good suggestion.  The object however, passed the silver test!

here's a piccy of the reverse .... i think it shows the hammer marks!!

A couple of very nice finds 👍...could the" half moon"artifact be part(one of possibly two parts)of the decoration on the handle of a knife dagger ...just a thought !!

our thoughts were along similar lines Chris. .... perhaps that of a scabbard decoration as another alternative suggestion?

Very interesting - and the Charles is a Charles II sixpence too - one of the very last hammered coins.
