Title: Eyes only find
Post by: Jon1987 on July 24, 2017, 05:25:17 PM
Hi all,

First time posting on here for a long while. Work and other commitments have seriously hampered my detecting efforts but I have finally managed to get out on one of my sites this last two weekends. Hoping to be much more active going forward!

Anyways... Amongst a few nice finds including a 1782 Spanish silver Real and a George 1st sixpence (likely love token), both in lovely condition, I found this weird eyes only find. It is made from stone (and might well be only a stone, albeit a very old shaped one). To me it looks worked and has a clear curve to it. One side is quite rough while the outside is very smooth.

Any help with an ID would be much appreciated. Like I said, it might well just be a natural piece of stone but it does look worked to me.

Many thanks
Jon

Hi John, yes I would agree that it does look like some kind of Mesolithic hand tool, always very difficult to truly ascertain for sure, well worth keeping hold of.
Well found,and if it's authentic,.a brilliant find.
Good hunting...👍

Nature is a wonderful thing John. Over the few years I've detected I picked up some weird and wonderful bits and pieces that I thought were something else. Including a triangle shaped piece of stone that I was convinced was an axe head.
It wasn't but I've kept it, just in case. Got to admit that since picking up the first one I've seen a few others the same.
