Title: ID please Post by: Andre on June 24, 2017, 05:40:43 PM Went today for a couple of hours to the field where I found the coinweight and amongst other things I found this little, fragile thing.
Also could you Id the copper coin, never found one so big. Is it the cartwheel? Thank you Doc Title: Re: ID please Post by: nonker10 on June 24, 2017, 06:31:09 PM the first one is a james the first halfgroat in really nice nick as well. the second one i'm afraid is not a cartwheel but a george the third penny from the soho mint.
Title: Re: ID please Post by: mudskipper on June 24, 2017, 08:38:09 PM The top coin looks like a James 1st. hammered 1/2 groat. 1604-1619.
second coinage, not sure of the bottom coin sorry Title: Re: ID please Post by: Andre on June 24, 2017, 10:31:31 PM Cheers guys,I had a look at the spinks and it's Stuart,James I,trefoil mint mark, probably 1613,I still find it difficult to use the book.
It came out of the field perfectly flat,so tiny .its my second one Title: Re: ID please Post by: handyman [Alan} on June 25, 2017, 06:57:54 PM whats the weight of the 2nd coin? if its close to an ounce, then its likely to be a cartwheel!!

Title: Re: ID please Post by: Resurgam on June 26, 2017, 09:01:17 PM Interesting to see you recover such a small coin Andre; well found m8. I hear tell that, as machines improve, people are finding more smaller and cut coins.
Title: Re: ID please Post by: Andre on June 28, 2017, 06:38:06 PM Thanks mate.
The coin is really tiny and thin but gave a belter of a tone, not very deep, the soil was turned last year and never detected. Title: Re: ID please Post by: probono on July 13, 2017, 09:08:48 AM Very nice - you're having some great finds recently
