Title: If not silver, what ?
Post by: artkat on April 23, 2017, 05:19:12 PM
Hi guys
This cuff-link turned up today on pasture, approx 6 inches down, and rang in at low 70's on my ace 400i.
It came out of the ground as good as in the pic's with no tarnish and it is easy to make out the flower design on each piece.
I thought it was silver but it failed the spit/foil test, does this mean it is definately not silver and if not silver any thoughts as to what metal it could be ?
Thanks in advance
Adrian

Only tarnished silver will give off the bad egg smell  (silver sulphide is the black  tarnish) when rubbed with foil, so could easily still be silver?

Cheers Myke
Thanks for the info, I thought all silver would have the sulphur smell, live and learn.
Cheers

They certainly look like silver to me
