Evening all, my friend has been trying convince me to take up metal detecting for the last 3 years. I've been putting it off but had a nasty SMIDSY motorcycle accident in November. For those that don't know that is when a car pulls out on a bike and says sorry mate I didn't see you. So I've decided to try do things that I've been putting off.

Anyway my name is Sam, 25 and I'm currently residing in Bristol, but moving to Wales next year either Newport or Cardiff are the most likely choices. Now when I go for something I normally go all out so I went for the Minilab Xterra 705, separate 12-13" coil and the Garret Pro pointer 2. All recommended by friends that do metal detecting. Now I'm after something to help carry it around in plus possibly a shovel.

Sorry for the first post to be a question hopefully I fit in, oh and those that are curious I've included an image of my bike below after the crash.

TLDR: After a bag for my new metal detector and a shovel. Has to be able carry the Minilab xterra 705 with 12-13" coil after suggestions ?

Welcome to the forum, I am sure you will fit in  just right, nice to see another motorcyclist, don't you just love some of those car drivers, how many times do you hear those words SMIDSY. Don't let it put you off though  :)

Re your question about a bag mate I am afraid I can't help you out there as it's not something I use.

Lucky to be able to walk away from that bro. "Sorry didn't see you", I think should carry a penalty for driving without care and attention. Its should never be used as an excuse for possibly killing or maiming someone. Its used far too often as an excuse for bad driving.

Cheers for the replies it wasn't that bad on the injuries; Fractured left ankle, Seriously bruised tendons on the left knee, Distal Radius and Scaphoid broken on the left wrist and to top it off a misaligned tendon now in the wrist that causes the Ulnar to jump every time I move my hand. The other driver ended up on a driver awareness course and apparently now has lost his licence because he can't see more than 5ft (he is 75).

I've got another bike it was stolen and I rebuilt it again well most of it; this was due an MOT on the 12th of November but I had to cancel it. Now I'm just trying get it back ready; forks started leaking, battery flat, brakes need doing, since this image I've repainted the tank black. Going be a rat bike so bit more painting and more customising to be done.

I'm actually tempted on taking the metal detector on the bike when it's up and running. As this thread has turned into a bit about motorcycles anyone here ever done that ?

nice to see your ok .I know how painful the scaphoid injury can be , my wrist is fussed after a bone graft after breaking mine  .Anyway my suggestion for a bag would be to look in the Army surplus stores and look at something like a Bergan , or a similar type of bag ,would carry all you need and could be used for riding the bike

I've seen a few members using push bikes, so once you find a bag it will be no problem, keep you eye out for idiots in cars 🚗

Hey  Ian,thats a bit hard mate,not all farmers are responsible for a sheep getting out onto the road...It could have been a rambler,or even dare I say it, an irresponsible detectorist....!!!..Just a thought ,glad you survived your crash though..👍
