Having had experience of a couple of detectors from the Garrett stable I would say that on balance the 400 I is probably going to be a good choice,however,i have to admit that the last Garrett I owned which was the EURO-ACE,i was very disappointed,it was good on the pastures but absolutely "pants" on the beach,wet black sands...very very unstable. Maybe the 400 I that your contemplating has drastically improved. Hope you don't mind this as a suggestion,take a good look at the MACRO RACER,ive owned mine for a couple of years now,and wouldn't part with it for the world,it truly is a very remarkable,and underestimated detector. So much so I'm going to invest in a new MACRO RACER 2 in the Spring of next year. These machines are very light,very deep,and very very stable on the black wet sands.
