Title: Harvest
Post by: celticspikey on August 02, 2016, 09:12:31 AM
Hi guys,  I took the wife out with the in laws for lunch Sunday, chose a nice pub close to some of my fields  ::) needless to say after lunch we were looking at the harvest situation, I noticed one of my fields was in the process of being cut, to my my amazement when we got home the wife said I should go back to field and have a few hours detecting ??? I said it's not fair as weekends are usually family time.....anyways 45 minutes later I was in said field Lol, on arrival I Was met by farmer who informed me he had lost a plate of the combine and had halted his harvest, he asked if I could look for it...he knew it had come of in the last cut and directed me to a 200 meter long pile of barley straw at almost 2 foot high. It was a daunting task and said I could only try, (Just what I wanted to do wait months for the harvest and I have to look for a piece of steel plate) Anyway some 30 minutes into search up popped the plate sat at the bottom of the straw 2 foot down, a quick wave to the farmer and the plate was reattached and combining continued, I spent the next 2 hours struggling with the long stubble, arm aching, shoulder and eventually lower back, oh and nothing to show for it, but for the fact the appreciation of the farmer. I have to say it was worth the experience, a warm summer evening with the sunlight bouncing of the freshly cut golden barley, and the combine cutting in the dusty distance, magical. Just thought I would share. ;) ;)

next time ask him for a ride in the combine ..... it's quite something to see how they manage such a difficult task!

What I'd like to know is how the heck you thump they get up into the cab. If they had to get me up they'd need a fork lift  ;D
Well done trying Paul. That little job saved the Farmer a lot of time and earned a Boy Scout point for you.   The goodies will come later  ;)
