Post by: dingdong on July 20, 2016, 08:51:17 PM
???....Hi guys and gals, just stumbled on this little bit of "whatever"it looks a bit bronzish !! But on closer inspection on the concave side it looks a bit meteorish !
It weigh's in at 1.6 Oz's (4.3grammes) so quite heavy, any way of finding out?  I've been looking at some pictures of pieces of meteorite,a couple of pictures look a 'bit' similar.
Thanks for looking..👍

Have you given it a bit of a scratch to see if it is bronze underneath?

Try a magnet on it, most meteorites are iron based.

Work out the specific gravity, weight the object and then put it in your wife's measuring jug to see how much water is displaced.
Divide the weight by the ml of water displaced and you will have the s.g.
Iron meteorites are very dense about 8 g/cm3
The more common chondrites meteorites are about half that.
After the test if you think it's still a meteorite, there are a few websites that will help you with some more tests.
