Title: A good field is never 'Done'
Post by: hotmill on July 20, 2016, 07:37:43 AM
Hello all,

Managed to get back onto one of my most productive fields last night. I've had a stack of hammered from it over the years and I thought I'd thrashed it, to the point where I could spend a couple of hours on it and come home with nothing. The grass had been cut earlier in the week so as it was so hot and the field is fairly flat I thought I'd give it a go.
I managed to pick out a slight signal that was giving me a lot of iron buzz on the Deus, but the reading was around 72 so I thought I'd dig it. Was very pleased when this popped out from about 10 inches.

Think it's an Eddy 3rd Half Groat, if you can add anything to that I'd be grateful.

Thanks

I bet that gave you a buzz!

I think it is a full groat, that's been clipped - London mint, mostly likely pre-treaty period as there are annulet stops

If that coin only just gave a buzz on the Deus, think of the other coins that you are missing because they are smaller / on edge.

I know that in my most productive field (which I haven't had a signal off for a year now) I picked up some groats, but didn't initially detect the quarter noble in the spoil that I dug out.......

It does look a bit too big for a half groat, nice one Mr Roberts.

I'd be chuffed if it was a full groat, never had a full one before.

Thanks for that. We had a lot of rain last night so hopefully that will have livened it up a bit, back on there soon so we'll see what else turns up.

I think I'll have to invite some of the better detectorists to the farm I go to one day - I went to a 'well done' field and managed two buttons and that was it!

I think we've all had the expectations on a return trip and found nothing, but, you just don't know, you may have gone over something at the wrong angle and missed more goodies

I go to a farm where almost all the fields are permanent pasture - and have been detected by many people over the years - it's also known as a quiet farm. I have no doubt that the action of worms / ploughing if it ever happened would transform the place, after all I've found some wonderful things on the farm, but there are plenty of times I go to the farm, to re-check some of the previously good fields where I repeatedly get no signals any more (I've gridded them in many directions / dug u the minerals and even iron) - Mike would be able to tell you :) Anyway, I'm playing the organ for the farmer's youngest daughter in a week, so you never know he might tell me about some other fields! I'm pretty certain on the quiet field there are more hammereds waiting there, but just out of detecting range......

I have many hobbies :) - I was taught by Brecon Cathedral Organist, and playing was my job for three and half years before I returned to nanotechnology.

It reminds of the old joke - 'did you see that fish playing the piano in the corner there - he was quite remarkable - that's because he is a piano tuna'.....

No jokes about 12 inch pianist Will, it just sounds like someone like to play with his organ with a crowd around lol
