I'm glad you found the descendants. It's a great story. You do wonder how it ended up in Porthcawl.

It gives me hope that I might one day find the people who left behind two WW1 in Rhiwbina.

Hi
I can try and help if you want. Can you send me the name on the side of the medals with the regiment and number. If one of them is a star the details are on the back.
Steve

The name on them is Robert O Winspear - one is the standard silver 1914-18 silver man on a horse, the other a bronze 1914-18 mercantile marine medal. No numbers on either of them.

I think I've found him and it looks hopeful that his grandaughter is still in Cardiff. I'll do some more digging tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks to probono Robert's daughter and granddaughter have been reunited with his Mercantile Marine and British War medals. I also managed to find a bit about his service recordsand, photos and where he went to school and lived etc. which has been passed on

I'd just like to thank risca-boy for the effort he put in to finding the family concerned - it was his efforts rather than mine that reunited the medals with their proper family.
