Title: Is It or Isn't It
Post by: Val Beechey on May 04, 2016, 06:48:16 PM
it has been suggested that the attached looks like a Roman Fibula. At the risk of boring you all I've taken another 4 pics.  ( 2 pics on next post)   What do you think ?

If it is then it's a monumental discovery for the area.

Sounds like Dingdong (Chris) might have nailed it. Just did a search for Llangefni on Google Earth and it took me way up north.
Where is it Chris ?

Certainly looks convincing - you've got the spring end - it's just missing (the pin of course!) the catch plate.

First 2 pictures certainly look like Trumpet brooch Val, nice and early well done, let's hope there's a few more things to come from the field.  ;) ;)

Tried that and a small piece dropped off and I haven't got any wax. Should get some, need it for the thimble as well.

See Val, what happens when you talk about Roman stuff. I would definitely send pic to Mar Lodwick. I think the Romans where more prevalent in West Wales than people think. Coin or coins next Val.

Always nice to empty your pocket or pouch when you get home and find out something is more than the piece of crud you thought it was. I've recued a few things from the scrap bin after having a look online or speaking to someone.
