Title: Hello All
Post by: rainyday on March 29, 2016, 06:08:24 PM
Hi all,
Nice forum and im looking forward to reading the threads here :)
Im in Abergavenny so plenty of places to go detecting locally.
Ive currently got  a Garrett 250 but am looking to upgrade to something I can use on the beach (wet sand)

Ive been looking at the minelab safari but a new one is a tad out of my price range, Can anyone suggest an alternative detector that can be used as an all rounder please?  I dont mind going secondhand as long as its in good condition.  Im on a budget of approx £450
Many thanks
Dean

hi welcome to the forum. safari's are cracking machines you could get lucky and get one second hand for around £500. the g2+ are good machines and macro racer. try

Hi thanks for the reply, I've been looking at the g2, it gets good reviews via Google as far as using it on the beach but doing some reading on here it's the opposite?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Dean

Welcome to the Forum Dean. Have a look on Staffordshire Metal Detectors. At the moment he's got a few useful machines 2nd hand. If it's in good nick there's a Minelab Quatro which is the pre Safari and is an excellent all rounder.
Kevin at Staffs is a great guy to deal with, give him a ring and ask.

Thanks all for the replies, Is the etrac easy to get on with or does it take some getting used to compared to the safari?
Also what would be a reasonable price for a secondhand  etrac?

Thanks
Dean

Hello Dean, with regards to your question.. SAFARI/E-TRAC, I recently asked the axact same questions, and I was told that if (I)found the SAFARI heavy and difficult, then the E-TRAC is every bit as heavy,if not more !! Also it's far more involved, but I suppose that's OK if your going to accept that it's going to take a fair while to understand the machine.
Also worth remembering that hoards have been found using some basic detectors.
And it's a big(HUGE) jump from a Garrett 250 to an E-TRAC.
Hope this helps.👍

Hi M8, best 2nd hand beach detector and a good all round land detector is a sov elite, or sov gt, brilliant machines, very easy to use.

The are a lot of alternatives, Id try and pop along to a local club either gwent, Hereford, or Brecon all of them are about 20 miles ish from Abergavenny and try out detectors from their respective members, before commiting yourself.

There is plenty of information on this forum.

Good luck

The sov elite is a very good all round detector for use on beach and for inland pasture/plough, and you should be able to pick one up quite reasonably Dean.
