Title: Pottery Books for Metal Detectorists
Post by: waltonbasinman on June 21, 2009, 04:49:22 PM
As promised here are my best books that I use for indentification. Some of the prehistoric pottery can still be very taxing to me and I have been looking at it for years. These books will always get me thru.

Medieval Pottery in Britain by Michael McCarthey and Catherine Brooks
Pottery in Archaeology by Clive Orton
Roman Pottery by Kevin Greene
Prehistoric Pottery in Britain and Ireland by Alex M Gibson
Prehistoric Britain by Joshua Pollard
Neolithic Britain and Ireland by Caroline Malone

Some pottery is still very easy to confuse with sherds from other periods and trust me everything is not in the books. Hope you find this useful.
