Title: "Detectorists"?
Post by: dingdong on November 15, 2015, 05:05:28 PM
I am sure that a lot of people like myself who watched the last DETECTORISTS episode was very slow,"very drawn out, this series of detectorists is C**P!!what a bore!! How much further are the story lines going to detract from metal detecting ?
How feeble the story line is! It's that rediculous its,its childish, and  as far as I am concerned,I will certainly NOT be watching another episode of this rediculous, nonsensical, bilgewash!!.....ARGH !!!!  👎
NOW I FEEL BETTER FOR GETTING THAT OFF MY CHEST !!!👍
.................ALL YOUR COMMENTS,GOOD OR BAD......WELCOME....

I think the story is not about detecting but 2 Guys who detect. Now there is a big difference between the two.
I must admit the story line has widened between the them in this series with more of the personal background of the main characters taking up most of the recorded time.
A bit of a dissapointment.

Honestly I thought the first season was great. I do have to admit that this season, apart from the opening 30 seconds of Episode 1, has really disappointed me and I have stopped watching it.

Yes Val I agree with you but,in the first series it was still about two DETECTORISTS just the same as this series, trouble is,its just that the story lines this series are so pathetically week !!

I don't know - I actually enjoyed the last episode more than the previous two - I certainly laughed out loud more on this one - and I do like the musical references.

Mind you, they always seem to detect in long grass - and for my mind it seems that 'Lance' has done more research in how to detect properly than Andy.

And - as it is about detectorists rather than detecting, I'm sure there is more development - after all some of us do have lives outside the hobby :)

Unfortunately my life outside of detecting always seems to take preference on my time.

Did make one comment watching the last episode.  Try walking side by side, one with a Deus and one with a Minelab Ha  :o

The machines seem to hate each other almost as much as the makers.

Not funny,and certainly not DETECTORISTS !! ;D

Hmm, sorry to disagree, but it is indeed very funny.  as for the issue of detectorists, that is just a vehicle for the comedy.

Every one is entitled to their view, but one shouldn't try to influence their opinion on others!

I'm lucky I've been away for work this year, otherwise I would have forgotten what dry and sunny was! :D

Thought this episode was very watchable.
Loved the beginning with the trampoline.  We had one rolling down the lane last winter so it brought back the memory and no there wasn't a child in that one either.

 ???

Damn Freeview hard disk recorder has a mind of its own and randomly chops the beginning or the end off programmes. We didn't see any trampoline . . .

I'll have a look if it's repeated anywhere so we can get the full story.

Apart from that, one of the better episodes  ;)

It was good to see farmer Bishop in the series again - don't know if it was just a cameo.

I was just mentioning him to the farmer on whose land I detect on just on Sunday.

I'm surprised. No one has commented on the last episode.  Wet Feet Again got his wish,  a Gold Dance, and a very good one to.
As no one commented I wondered how many realised what Lance had found.  The Alfred Jewel, legendary of course but only to those who are interested.
I'm sure I heard somewhere that several were made and Alfred gave one to each of his high ranking Lords as a thank you for their support.  Seems that opinion has now changed but they are still guessing.
That's what detecting is all about.

to be honest I got emotional ha ha ha the scene with his daughter choked me but then the find scene was so nail biting I was expecting a ring pull like in the last series when he didn't recheck the hole ....was slow to start but I thought the last 3 episodes were great  :D

Title: Re: "Detectorists"?

I really enjoyed the series a little slow to start but only 6 half hour segments unfortunately..
The gold dance was fab... Lol
Christmas special to come lol

Aw come on be honest, did you know what he'd found ?

Title: Re: "Detectorists"?
Post by: raistlain on December 06, 2015, 09:57:35 PM
I did honestly as I've seen pics off it before and read it was possibly off a pointer as he liked to read a lot but that was just speculation of course  but it did have an inscription saying something like I was made for Alfred  :)

I don't know if there's anything in the pipe-line but I saw that BBC want a 3rd series.
How about  Mackenzie going to Africa and finding something fantastic, maybe proof of the 12th tribe of the Israelites, and coming home with an Honourable Doctorate from the University of Botswana.
Or Lance entering Master Minds (as per last episode) and winning.

The mastermind could be the Christmas special?  ???

I don't think he will go to Africa now ...to much detecting to be done here ha ha

Title: Re: "Detectorists"?

I knew it was an 'Alfred Jewel' - the real one is in the Ashmolean in Oxford where I was a student - interesting that they kept the anglosaxon theme, but then I expect that for a single item, something saxon like that would be high up on people's list of something they would love to find.

I certainly felt as if there were plot lines being developed for a future series - Terry's missus hinted that behind her slightly loopy exterior there was some great sadness for instance.

I noted as well that 'Africa' was only meant to last a year too.

Liked the gold dance - although I can only say that in my case I was almost sick when I found some :).

I agree that the last three episodes certainly were more watchable than the first three - although it was still nice to see the characters come back and develop further.

Just out of interest what was the value put on the Alfred jewel when it was found?

Just out of interest what was the value put on the Alfred jewel when it was found?

Good question as it was found in 1693.

Donated  in 1718, must be priceless these day. ;)  Jerry.

Call me sad but I wish the writer Mackenzie Crook would get the continuity right, when asked if they have ever found gold the answer was no but as I recall the short fat one Lance, (Toby Jones) found a gold coin when detecting with  Sophie in the first series and so upset Andy(Mackenzie Crook).

All this feed back about the detectorists ,yes the problem is slow yes its funny ,and it's showing high interest out !'of the detecting world lots of different  opinions five out of 10 for me

Well I must say at first I didn't rate it at all BUT,I do now admit that as time went on it did get better, SO,for me seven out of ten !!

The gold coin was in the Polish guys wallet .  That's why he was looking for the crashed plane that he said his Grand Father had been killed in.

The wife and daughter loved it for a variety of reasons; not least that they consider me to be a "detectorist"! When Lance said that onion growing countries never export their crop, I thought about it and said "I didn't know that". The daughter piped up and said " dad I was just thinking how sad, when you chimed in with your comment". :) We all fell about laughing.

The wife even commented on the poor detector swinging that takes place and asked me if I would be dancing like Lance if I ever find a hoard. I would give it ten out of ten for easy watching and quality acting. As for detecting accuracy; well that's an other story!   ;)

exactly it's light entertainment and in my opinion quite enjoyable if not a bit slow the first 3 episodes but this was more than made up for in the last 3 ...and if we're all honest every detectorist out there recognised a little bit of themselves in the characters ....every time i find a ring pull now i giggle thinking of how he identified them  ;D
