Title: And Then There Were 3
Post by: Val Beechey on August 30, 2015, 08:26:33 PM
Couldn't believe my eyes when another of these things turned up, and then another, so now I've got 3, and I still don't know what they are.

All 3 have the same cross on the back but the 2 latest have different letters. 1 x Y  and 1 x N.  The 1st one has a G.

If anyone has any ideas please shout.

hi val  years ago there were discs with holes and numbers/ letters on them, they were nailed to the old wood telegraph poles mainly on old country lanes, dont know if thats what yours are, its just a thought, .probably someone else will come up with another idea.

I was thinking of these tokens as I was looking at tokens (the nice 1811/1812 silver series) and came across several like these (although without the holes) on fleabay - described as 'farm / hop' tokens, in lead.

Look forward to comparing your 'token' to mine Chris.

Bampy your suggestion sent me off on a search for Telegraph Pole info. and guess what, there's actually a Telegraph Pole Appreciation Society. (Don't some peeps have strange hobbies  ::) ) As far as could see the disks they used were not at all like mine, but thanks for the suggestion. Plus I think my disks may be older than the Telegraph.

Probono I was inclined to think my first find had to be a Farm token but now I wonder if maybe they were educational. I'll have to go search out a few more and see if they have the rest of the alphabet on them.

Always nice to find something unusual.
