Title: Staffordshire Hoard Was More Important For its Missing Iron!!
Post by: Spooyt Vane on July 01, 2015, 02:16:31 PM
Its always been assumed that gold was more important than the missing blades of swords and the leather of the books and helmets ..My thougt is in areas of siege the Saxons asked tribal leaders to hand over there old family swords and helmets. To be put in the melting pot to strengthen and to be reused in battle without the fancy gold fitting..These weapons would have been handed down from father to son over generations and not trophies from battle fields...Rob
