Can you help identify. Looks like part of Button. From exposed metal on back, looks like gold. I'd say it was probably brass or copper as gold doesn't tarnish. Always nice to dream though. ;)

I'd have to do the same as the Archies and say post medieval, officially 1601 onwards.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_Medieval Please don't shoot the messenger ;D Title: Re: Part of button (possibly Gold) Post by: Chef Geoff on June 29, 2015, 09:20:33 PM Ahh now your in to the murky water between history and archaeology :-\ Historically the end of the medieval comes with the death of Richard III in 1485 as this is the neat changeover of power from the House of Plantagenet to that of Tudor and can't be moved however archaeology relies on a more tangible physical change, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and Norman all have their own "styles" and so can be neatly pigeon holed but when it comes to this 1485 cut off there is no physical change, if you had fallen asleep in the reign of Richard III and awoken in the reign of Henry VII or early VIII you probably wouldn't of noticed any difference in the trappings of day to day life and it's not until late Henry VIII or Lizzy that things are noticeably different (but still not as late as 1601) I'm not sure who has or is using a later date but for accuracy it's better to still use the 1485 date ;)
