Title: Lost platinum wedding ring in Barry island
Post by: Rick_Deckard on May 30, 2015, 01:17:54 PM
This gentleman asked me for help in Barry island. His platinum wedding ring slipped off while burying his son on the sand.

Dave: mobile: 07584652067

He felt it slip off in about a 6 foot radius. If you, re near, give him a call.

& whoever helps out remember that Platinum comes very close to iron as far as a detector is concerned therefore all-metal required.

What had the poor kid done to deserve being buried in the sand . . . ? :o

I'd be there like a shot but I'm literally at the opposite end of Wales

Hey dances with badgers
give the chap a call, if he's happy to he should be able to tell you reasonably precisely where he lost it.
Good luck!

I think you need to pop your machine in to Regtons and get it checked out ;D
No don't worry peeps platinum is not even close to reacting like iron to a metal detector, yes on a conductance scale there is very little difference but (similar to the carat of gold question a couple of weeks ago) this is DC electronics and we are dealing with AC skin effect (inductance) which is totally different and so platinum will signal at a mid point (depending on size and shape) like 18ct gold.
One thing to remember is that those VDI numbers many of us have on our machines are human constructs and have absolutely no basis in reality, iron for instance is a good conductor and yet shows low :-\ but this is to do with it being easy to identify due to it being ferrous (magnetic) ;)
