Title: Button anyone?
Post by: wondering on March 08, 2015, 10:49:38 PM
I found this button on pasture land about 7 inches down best I have found out just because on the back is Jennens & co london.

There is a distinct cross swords with little slashes above them its not embossed just looks to have been guilded so its not really been washed lol. Any help would be great.

I've always said it's near impossible to ID livery buttons but you've struck lucky with this one George. By the way, you've got it upside down.

It was commissioned by a family called Jenner.   Here's a link to a livery button site.  Yours is the 7th down on the left.
The makers were Jennens & Co who were in existence from 1800 - 1912 they didn't add London to the stamp till 1832 so that gives you a window of 1832 - 1860 after that time they stamped the back with the Prince of Wales Plume.

Suggest a search of 1861 Census records for the name of Jenner in Glamorgan also try looking up Wenvoe Castle on Wiki  ;)

Wont tell you what I found, it's much more interesting if you do some research yourself.

p.s. can't you tell it's raining and I'm bored  ::)
