Tony Sirett, some will know him.. copies below of the information, any help would be good to collar the Bastards.
can you ask your members to keep an
eye out for some one selling a minelab etrac? It
has got camouflage covering up the stem and screen
cover, the screen has a big crack in it going from left
bottom corner to right top corner.
He was out yesterday evening and was beaten up by
two people who stole his detector, the farmer who
he helped the other day has offered a reward on prosecution . he has two broken ribs, a broken nose and two black eyes. the farmer has offered £1000 reward leading to a successful prosecution of who ever did this.
the farm he was on is just outside of Bawtry, the people that did it were no more than 20 years old, he thinks the car was a light electric blue colour corsa or Peugeot type, all details have been passed onto the police.

Sincere wishes for a speedy recovery to that guy,and hope that those dispicabal cretins get caught and severely punished, God what is this world coming to?!!!!!

Fair play to farmer, I hope he recovers soon. As for the 2 against one tufty thug boys, lets hope they get what's coming to them  ;D ;D and I don't mean via crown prosecution ::) ::)

Shocking i hope he gets well soon,   would love 5 minutes alone with those two ???

There was a detector stolen from a dig in England couple of weeks ago that appeared on Ebay next day,
maybe worth checking out

Had a gander at a few online sights cant see anything could have gone to a pawnshop. If it were me at least one of them would have taken a shovel to the face

We like to think we would have a go at them but in reality the type of person who would rob you in a field is probably on drugs and desperate and wouldn't think twice about stabbing you to death if you fought back. Getting killed for the price of a metal detector just isn't worth it, just give it to them, it can be replaced, you can't. My house insurance covers items out of the house lost or stolen up to 1500 quid.

Your of course correct hotmill its not worth dying for, I would let them have it ;D ;D ;D ;D and I do mean have it :o :o :o, and what's more enjoy it  ;) it says in the bible thou shall not steal another mans detector, I think :P

I have already commented on the dreadful attack on that guy,but as we all know today's detectors are getting even more sophisticated but with sophistication comes expense, machines these days are very expensive.
This sort of attack and robbery is becoming more and more commonplace, therefore why can't detector manufacturers start to incorporate some sort of
Password entry system into the electronics within the detector,if a detector happens to get stolen it would be rendered useless(suggest,2 /3 attempts then detector goes into permanent shutdown,and would have to be sent back for factory reset.
Also,from now on,if I am detecting on my own I will purchase a personnel attack alarm,we have got to do something to try and stop these sorts of attacks from happening, I await your comments and well,any ideas??

Well firstly metal detectors are no more sophisticated now than they were in 1980 in fact in electronic terms they are all very basic bit's of kit but yes prices have reached a silly level with well over 60% of what we pay being profit to one person or another (that's more than petrol :D). All password entry systems can and do get broken eventually and it would certainly add even more to the price.
It is sadly a sign of our times and of our own making so we just have to live with it and stay as safe as we can, My camera is equal to around 2 CTX but I never think about security other than is common sense when I'm out :-\

As to getting a personal alarm which you can use in a field miles from anywhere......good luck with that then ;D

I don't know if it is true I heard it was one big con I read it on some detecting forum . a lot of people feel sorry for them and they all chip in a few quid  to help them out and more often than not it never happened. bingo new detector for nothing . now I aint saying this aint true but I did read it on a forum  ;)

Looks like this was not just a case of a random detectorist being robbed.
It looks like the nighthawks have been and took their detector back that the farmer took from them and gave to tony.

Thanks all for the thought's, it's Tony here, been in touch with the police as I've still not been contacted, I do have a crime number but apparently there's no notes attached to it.....
I do feel very embarrassed about it, would have kicked their ass's a few years ago but age sort of creeps up on you.
The farmer seems to think he might know who it is and is also waiting for the police to visit him.
I'm afraid I don't have the serial number of the detector as I've only had it a week or so, it was one of the ones the farmer confiscated of off the night hawkers.

Please don't any one be put off by my experiences, this is a one off very rare thing to happen, I've had many many happy hours detecting.

Ah seems this was true i hope he makes a full recovery

So he was using a stolen machine and the owner took it back....a bit of a grey area that one :-\

not condoning nighthawking, but for the farmer to take their detectors is illegal and just as Geoff has pointed out Tony Sirret was  using "their" stolen detector

Just what i was thinking Geoff seem everyone was in the wrong to a greater or lesser extent ???

 Failing too report after criminal damage has happened if any was seen or happened"civil trespass" is a civil matter "theft from the trespasser and handling stolen goods plus assault is criminal!! Lesson learned for all parties involved. ..

Next time I'm detecting on my own and I see someone approaching me I'll smash my detector to bits before they get to me, that will show um.

WELL!!it certainly has opened a large can of worms,I really can't decide on what to believe, but one thing is for sure,I will carry a pepper spray deterant for self defence,what's that I hear you say,"you are not allowed to carry pepper spray!!!Oh well I had better not then!!!! only kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!I know what,I will just stand there and hand over my much loved Safari which i worked bloody hard to afford.
Regardless of what others say,you have to be prepared to defend your rights,after all that's what we fought in two world wars for,wasn't it?come on then,let's open up another can of worms!!!
