Title: R/B or I/A
Post by: celticspikey on December 17, 2014, 01:00:18 PM
I just thought I would show this big piece of pot, that had recently been excavated by the badgers, you can see the hole it came from, I reckon it is about a 1/4 of the original pot and looks roman, it has decoration below the rim. I also picked up much smaller pieces of Iron age pottery and in the past I have picked up bone? I will keep an eye out for the rest of it as there must be more I'm sure ::) would appreciate your comments if you thing it earlier than Roman ;) As you can see I did manage to find a small Roman brooch as well, and yes I did try and take the bend out of it with not the best of results hey ho I should have known better. The silver shoe buckle is from the church field at the rally and it cleaned up nice, thanks to all the guys for organising it as usual, and to my fellow detectorist's for a great day ;)

That's a biggy Paul I'd tentatively say it's iron age possibly even Glastonbury ware but would need a better (closer) pic to be sure ;)

Ah now that looks more like Roman grey ware if the colour is accurate, are the lines actually part of the decoration or scratches?

Look like plough / stone sratches to me - used to get a lot of those from errant trowling when I used to clean the pots my parents dug up.
