Hi all!
Spent a couple of hours on the beach Tuesday just along the high tide mark, plenty of rubbish even at 8 inched deep I was pulling out cans and rusted bolts encrusted with gravel bits. Wandering back to the car I kept the detector swinging and came up with 2 x 1 pound coins next to each other just below the soft sand.

Detecting on Porthcawl's beaches has been absolute rubbish since the heavy storms earlier this year. Even the ring pulls are in short supply.

A few of us should get together and walk from Porthcawl, past Sker and onto Morfa maybe?  Would be a great walk if nothing else.  Chase the tide out and in.  Park a car at each end to make life easy.

I have detected on the 'donkey ' beach for over twenty years. In those days I would reckon to find a decent ring, gold or silver, every third visit. I used a C-Scope CS 6PI pulse induction machine which was far superior to the discriminating machines of the day. Al questioned whether the storms would have released  a load of new goodies, and in theory this should have been the case, but not on the beaches of Porthcawl. It did of course uncover two 18th century canons at Pink Bay three quarters of a mile west of the 'donkey' beach. Badger tells us that Porthcawl is productive at certain times, but I have my doubts. I think it will take a long time to recover.

problem with coney beach is the break water stops the waves churning the beach up needs a real good storm to get the victorian levels churned up.plenty on there but its too deep

I will go with Badger on that one,, the problem is if you can't find the gold then it's probably been Badgerised.,,,,! ???

I detected Sandy Bay today. I used a PI machine and searched from the middle of the beach to the waters edge along its entire length.

I found 68 ferrous bits, one silver earring and four coins totalling 14 pence. Oh yes and four ring pulls.

I was finding fish hooks and swivels, so if I had gone over a ring, I don't think I would have missed it.

To be honest WYU I have never ever considered whether I need a license to search Sandy Bay. Day trippers by their hundreds use it, as do dog handlers, horse riders, swimmers and surfers. I bet they don't worry about whether they need a license or not. I consider the beach to be an amenity for all, and nobody has questioned my presence on the beach in over twenty years. Get out there and enjoy. I just hope you find more than me.
