Title: Re: Help Post by: stevem45 on October 24, 2014, 10:18:21 PM Can anyone ID this please very strange lead item with glass in it Its a no Then lol Title: Re: Help Post by: Chef Geoff on October 24, 2014, 10:26:45 PM I've been looking at it since you asked but I honestly can't think of a use for it, its obviously missing something above the glass that was the shield shape but was that coloured glass which when mounted in front of the bottom piece would give more sparkle? And even then why use lead? lead as a fixing is most commonly used in stonework.......must have been one heck of a glitzy wall ;D
Title: Re: Help Post by: Val Beechey on October 25, 2014, 03:36:25 AM Some idea of size would be useful. I was thinking along the line of some sort of mould. But as Geoff said , lead ? it wouldn't stand up to the temperature required for firing.
It's certainly an odd one. I think it's going to be one of those 'thingies' that we come across. Worth hanging onto though. You never know when an explanation might suddenly pop up. Val Title: Re: Help Post by: stevem45 on October 25, 2014, 08:37:58 AM Thanks Both
Title: Re: Help Post by: stevem45 on October 25, 2014, 03:30:20 PM Measurements. here it is: Weight: 18.6 gr/ diameter:18mm/ lenght: 19mm.
Title: Re: Help Post by: Val Beechey on October 25, 2014, 06:25:51 PM Gosh, that's very tiny. It almost knocks it into the jewellery bracket. That might make more sense of the glass or maybe not.
Still can't understand the lead. Val Title: Re: Help Post by: nonker10 on October 25, 2014, 10:53:19 PM I know exactly what it is!!!!!

Geoff I haven't a link but this is some I found after a quick Google its the closest thing I can think of it could be.. but obviously of a different design, looking at it I don't think it got many uses Title: Re: Help Post by: Chef Geoff on October 26, 2014, 01:23:27 PM Oh yes well done Dale, better than anything I can think of ;)
Title: Re: Help Post by: Dale on October 26, 2014, 01:31:42 PM Oh yes well done Dale, better than anything I can think of ;) This is Steve's first photo of the four, im not 100% but its possible ;) Title: Re: Help Post by: Val Beechey on October 26, 2014, 02:50:18 PM There are also others, similar, with inserts that are classed as seals. Possibly the insert has broken away.
Definitely one for your FLO I'd say. Don't want you to get too excited but most of the similar gaming pieces look to be Viking. Val Title: Re: Help Post by: Chef Geoff on October 26, 2014, 03:13:01 PM I believe it was found in Denmark Val so you could be right ;)
Title: Re: Help Post by: Val Beechey on October 26, 2014, 04:02:18 PM Really ? I don't s'pose they have FLO's over there eh ::)
What an unusual find though. Just the sort of thing I love. Much more interesting than a common hammered coin. ::) Val Title: Re: Help Post by: stevem45 on October 26, 2014, 06:46:37 PM Thanks for your help guys
