13" ultimate but depends how trashy the ground , i have 4 coils for my minelab, ultimate, pro,  joey and 800 DD they all have there uses  ;)

I got a ultimate at the beginning of the year mate but think its playing up now little. Worked great till the last few weeks

When you say "playing up" do you mean it's falsing?

make sure the thread on the cable to head unit is tight had a similar problem with my etrac. had to use ptme tape in the end

OK well there is a fix that sometimes works you need to crimp the locking nut on the connector that goes into the machine, be careful that you don't over do it just enough so there is a good contact between the nut and the connector in the machine a quick pinch should do it ;)

Performance? there is no difference at all in normal conditions but on highly mineralised sites the Etrac copes better and is more user friendly ;)
