Title: Coin weight or not

Hi , found this a month ago , but didnt see the markings on it until I cleaned it tonight ,

Its the size of a 10 pence , and the thickness of 4 ten pences. But heavier than four 10 pences.

Markings are          
                                      L          5

                                      3    *    12

Never found one Rob but have seen some in the Hereford museum collection that just say 18 /19 th century weight.

Thanks guys , so more of a general purpose weight for say weighing flour or grain ect.?

It is an English coin weight Rob, dating to the 18th century, for the Portuguese 8 escudo coin (also known as a "Double Joe"), which was valued in Britain  at £3 12 shillings. Its weight should be about 28.6 grams. Some info here, but doesn't show the exact design, only more fancy ones:
