Still think its terrible. Was it supposed to be a comedy ? Just had 2 friends splitting up with big argument, Crook and partner splitting up likewise. The detecting is a sideline. Could be watching Eastenders.

I respect your view, but wonder how can you compare Detectorists with the one you have quoted and say that you don't watch? Doesn't make sense.

I laughed when I saw that Lance was reading the Treasure Searcher magazine whilst sitting under the tree. I wonder how many other detectorists noticed the amalgamation of the names of our two hobby magazines? Another example of subtle humour. My only complaint is that the programme is far too short. Thursday night can't come around quick enough.

I stand corrected then Geoff, and apologise to Win. Anyway, it enabled me to give another point of view.  ;D

I think its a rather sweet, gentle, subtle comedy and I've enjoyed it so far, especially the schoolteacher.......

Yes, the 'stater' was a bit large, but you couldnt expect the Beeb to afford a real one, or even a props junior that knew what one looked like, or could be arsed to research, and I forgive them that. But I do recognise a lot of the characters and attitudes that I've seen or met in over 40 years detecting, and the understated humour in how Andy and Lance fare in their detecting forays.

But the program is not about detecting as such, but about relationships, jealousies, misunderstandings and malice, detecting being the vehicle through which these are explored, after all it has to appeal to the millions of non-detecting viewers who hopefully will watch and give Crook a return on his effort.

Jerry

I think its realistic and hilarious

I find the F word unnecessary and the recent use of the C word absolutely appalling

I did think what could it be - it's seemed a bit flat to be a stater - wondered if he had used a guinea?

The other possibility was that it was meant to be one of the really early staters - heavier and larger I believe
