Title: Re: Old Detectors Post by: cardiffian on August 02, 2014, 08:06:52 PM I still have my very first 2 detectors from the 1970's. They are both C-scopes. One is an IB300 and the other is a TR700. The IB300 was a great machine both on land and the wet sand. I can't bring myself to part with them.

Great memories Cardiffian...my first machine was a C.scope bought from Joan Allen about 1975 and my first hoard was found by 8OO C.SCOPE in 1978and updated free of charge for the story ..So Kevin and myself got the latest 1000 c.scopes .Those were the days ...You would be lucky to get a free trowel nowadays ; :) :) Title: Re: Old Detectors Post by: Dale on August 03, 2014, 09:53:17 AM What about this photo its Thornbury Md club (SHRADS) formed in 1979 I don't think the photo was took much after, someone may recognise a machine or two? ;D

Are they still going? That must be one of the oldest clubs around if they are.which brings me to my next question.. Anyone know which is the oldest Metal Detecting club still in existence? Trying to get new land around my way is hard because Thornbury club has it, but they may only visit the farm once a month or less to give the farmer a brake, so there hunts are all staggered, clubs got good and bad points, good if your in, bad as there is a 2 year wait ;) Title: Re: Old Detectors Post by: JBM on August 03, 2014, 05:05:05 PM I recognise a few faces on the picture some have passed on to pastures new after all those years. ;) Jerry.

Can't remember what year that was though. Ancient Pat may be able to confirm the year.
Yeovil MDC have also been around for many years. Possibly late 1970's. But it folded a few years later...Seven years ago I helped to reform a new club (Manx Detectorist Society) and I was appointed first chairman...I have now no longer on the committee through illness,but I still attend meeting and outings :)
