I still have my very first 2 detectors from  the 1970's. They are both C-scopes. One is an IB300 and the other is a TR700. The IB300 was a great machine both on land and the wet sand. I can't bring myself to part with them.

Great memories Cardiffian...my first machine was a C.scope bought from Joan Allen about 1975 and my first hoard was found by 8OO C.SCOPE in 1978and updated free of charge for the story ..So Kevin and myself got the latest 1000 c.scopes .Those were the days ...You would be lucky to get a free trowel nowadays  ; :) :)

1979? Are they still going? That must be one of the oldest clubs around if they are.
which brings me to my next question.. Anyone know which is the oldest Metal Detecting club still in existence?

As for old detectors I still have my first proper detector which is a Tesoro Silver Sabre II ok its not that old but thats the best I could do ;(

I think Weston Super Mare club has been going from back around that time but definately from the early 80's as I was a member back then.
I've still got an old Savo-Whites 5000DB I'll have to fire up and bring along to a rally, show the newer Deus and CTX users just how little things have improved in nearly 40 years   :D :D

Yeah there still going Pon, they had a open day with finds on display but I missed it, it wasn't well advertised, I always check there web site for finds of the month as well, as its a local club.
Trying to get new land around my way is hard because Thornbury club has it, but they may only visit the farm once a month or less to give the farmer a brake, so there hunts are all staggered, clubs got good and bad points, good if your in, bad as there is a 2 year wait ;)

I recognise a few faces on the picture some have passed on to pastures new after all those years. ;)  Jerry.

PS There are links between the original members of both clubs. :)  Jerry.

Cardiff Scan Club has been going since 1978 at least. I joined it a few meetings after they started. Can't remember what year that was though. Ancient Pat may be able to confirm the year.

Yeovil MDC have also been around for many years. Possibly late 1970's.

The Manx Detector Club was formed in 1980/81 and I was the first chairman. But it folded a few years later...Seven years ago I helped to reform a new club (Manx Detectorist Society) and I was appointed first chairman...I have now no longer on the committee through illness, but I still attend meeting and outings  :)
