Title: Beach find id help please
Post by: badja52 on July 21, 2014, 07:33:47 PM
On the Dyfi estuary today, ring pulls and a few pence and then this tuns up !.
Looks and feels like aluminium but not sure it is pure, maybe an alloy. weighs about 50 grams

Lots of numbers and marks and both ends seem to have screw threads.
Marks I can see are:-

?5INPAM1944

653A

BP ?8
could it be Military ?

No Eric that mortar looks like that but there are many different types, this is an 81mm  round, relatively modern but I'm sure if you search "mortar rounds" you'll get a match ;)

I'd say that's in the right ball park Geoff.  Mine is about half the length of one in your pic, so I guess a smaller round.
Thanks,
John   ;D
