Title: Fully resumable multicolour track and finds recording android gps app
Post by: Wormslayer on July 16, 2014, 11:43:23 AM
If anyone is interested, I have developed an android gps app called Tect O Trak, specifically for metal detecting.
I am a metal detectorist myself, so i think i have a good handle on our specialist requirements.
Please give it a try and tell me/us what you think.

You can download the demo here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trib.app.tectotraklite

Good luck this coming season everyone.

Sounds (and looks) cool.

I'll have to give it a try out

Unfortunately mobiles (any OS) are only reliable to 100m so the resume part may be a bit difficult  :-\

Hi,

I'm not sure why you think that? I would say resume is accurate to less than 2m!  The trick is to have it track you to your start position before you actually start recording your tracks. If you start tracking  while you're getting ready, then walk to you start position I assure you the resume accuracy will almost be spot on!

Heres s pic of a field I did last year. The top right of the field is where i parked my car and where i always started from. If it was out as much as you say on resume, there should be stray track marks all over the farmyard and  buildings too! Like any tool you just need to know how to use it.

I can only suggest trying it. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Will try, well done for the effort. I think a little praise goes a long way. Good effort!

I'm obviously a bit behind the times lol and looking at your track it looks very good but obviously the phone you use has a bearing on the results but not even military GPS will get you accuracy less than around 1m , my Sony Xperia can be spot on one week and put you in a completely different field the next week but if yours works then I'll certainly give it a try ;)

Thanks to all that were willing to give it a try.

You are right Geoff,  accuracy could very well depend on which device a user has. All I really know 100% for sure is that it's very good on my S2!

Well today was my big day . My first day back detecting in the new season. However, sadly it wasn't to be :'(  I already knew I was going to be facing rapeseed stubble, but I wasn't reckoning on how just how thick the stalks are this year! Normally I always start the season detecting the areas where the stalks are thin and weedy due to to growing conditions. but there wasn't any!  It's been a good season for rapeseed. The farmer told me he is 2 weeks ahead with the harvest. He's as pleased as Punch!  I'm not.  Hate the stuff  :'(  I think the answer to rapeseed stubble, is a small coil. Maybe next year.. I think I'll just wait a few more weeks until he's scratched it all up.

Anyway,,  I wasn't going to waste a beautiful afternoon in the countryside. so I thought I'd do a 'Resumed search accuracy test.  In the image, each colour is a stop-exit and resumed track. The stars are simulated findspots.  There's also an image of the generated finds list.

Just to let you know...

I've recently updated the app and added a custom track colour selector. (Previously it auto scrolled through the spectrum on each resume) I've also added a compass bearing tool. This will help you find the best and cleanest line to take through and between previously recorded tracks, and can guide you to the areas you have barely touched.  It can also show you the way back to the car! :P    You can see how it works here :-   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kTwSVBRwdA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kTwSVBRwdA)

       Be lucky,

                 Mark.
