Title: CTX3030 prices slashed.
Post by: JBM on June 13, 2014, 02:37:52 PM
The latest Maplin offer is £380 off the machine now being offered at £1519-99. ;) Jerry.

I think they could do with being slashed by another £500 or so :) - might be interested then, but at least it's a better price - thanks for sharing.

That's good news, it is an overpriced machine like all the rest of the top of the range detectors. Hopefully more machines will come down in price now and we will  not be ripped off to the extent that we are now. I know detecting is a limited hobby but the prices charged for  detectors and all the paraphenalia that go with them are extortiante

£1500 for a top end detector good news.

Obviously trying to compete with Deus  ;D ;D

I'm just surprised the cartel let them slash the price...  ;D

Crawfords have dropped their price to that of Maplins for Fathers day..

The genies out of the bottle. ;)  Jerry.

Unfortunately Joan Allen has the cork though and has the power to but it back in :-\

A good point Geoff but do they have the cork for the Maplins bottle which could be a champagne one? and you will not get that cork back in.

Having said that the punters will always have in mind the day the CTX3030 and other machines were reduced by such large amounts of money. ;)  Jerry.

Well I hope it stays out... to be fair its not really 380 off its more like almost 200 of as the JA pack comes with the 17"waffle coil for 1999  which is supposed to be 300 ish and they sell the basic machine for 1699 as"ex demo" without the waffle coil.  But it's a good start... ;)

I think your right Andy which makes me think that JA are still behind the supply and as you say the "cartel" will remain, I've heard from two fairly reliable sources that the CTX costs just short of £900 direct from Minelab, Etrac at £600 and the Deus at £580 from XP so with those sorts profits the big two would be mad to lose their control over supply.

I can certainly believe those figures Geoff. So much for a free market and competition...

Tried both Dues and 30 30, great machines I must admit, but took Geoff,s advice and stuck with what I know. The prices are way to high, even though their good, their only as good as the one using it.
I might be able to afford one in ten years time lol.
Big guys holding the ropes again.

Hey DEADLOCK, matched you 2 for 2 on hammies, with my Deus on those fields up the road......   ;)

And without the use of a full body harness.

not this load of tosh again ,, its all about where you go and how often  that determines the amount of finds one makes,, you could have the best machine in the world but if the ground is poor then you aint going to find a lot also a person that goes out 5 times a week will find more than someone who goes out once a week ,,, simples  ::)

There is a sensible response from a wise minded detectorist.  ;)  Jerry.

It would have to be a hell of a machine for me to pay 1900 quid! Has anyone on the forum got one? Is it much of an improvement over an Etrac? or is it just the GPS and all the other bells and whistles that make it more expensive?

As you know Will I had both machines. I felt it was a little more refined than the etrac and did like the separation on it. It was defiantly quicker too.  Better balanced. Found me lots as well.  I did actually go over some old ground and found more but that will be down to other factors as well.

BUT, it doesn't justify the price difference if just upgrading for the sake of it.

I stick by what I have always said and that is "it's down to the user knowing all the adjustments and been confident in there machine" for me the biggest thing to make me change between detectors now is weight. I have been doing just as good with the Deus especially when I set it up on the day to suit conditions.

Thanks Danny, I'm trying out a Minelab Safari at the moment and going over ground i have done with the Deus and have found a few bits I must have missed with the Deus. The grass has been cut today on the fields I found all the hammered on last year so I'm giving the Minelab a go there tonight. I'm just interested to see if the Minelab with the FBS can pick up items missed by the Deus.

You don't need a degree in mathematics to work out that there's something "fixed" ie if you buy the standard pack, 9" coil, remote and ws4 headphones from the UK (or the EU in general) it will cost you £1281 this is in countries with no import duty and low transport costs, now if I buy the same thing in the USA where they have had to pay import duty and greater shipping costs it will only cost me £1120.....go figure ???

I know plenty who who would disagree with regards the greaty service comment and thats based on many years experience in the detecting game.

We just keep our powder dry. ;)  Jerry.

I think that detector prices might be lower if all those people with more money than sense stopped rushing to buy the latest over priced detector the minute it is in the shops.
If no one bought one at first then the price would have to be lowered.

Doug just gave me the heads up on a bit of news that could see a bit more of an open market, that if supply to retailers now comes direct from Ireland and therefore cuts out the middle man, this was posted on another forum by Peter at Joan Allen;

Minelab Distribution in the UK
It is with deepest regret that Joan Allen are no longer allowed to distribute Minelab products into the UK, we will continue to be able to sell their products but not supply other dealers, this is with immediate effect.

I have been reading the Joan Allan statement on a number of other detecting sites.

Iam sure that a few smaller outlets will shed no tears over this news.

Perhaps fathers days was just the start of something far bigger in the Minelab market place. ;)  Jerry.
