The top handle locks into the bottom by a grip friendly locking mechanism. This beach scoop is by 'Metal Jacket' and are made to last a life time. They will not rot of break, and probably the best you can get. The travel version (which this is) is more expensive than the non-break down version. This is not a thin section scoop but thick gauge stainless steel made by a professional. Buyer to collect (just outside Cardiff & Newport). Small? :o It has a 4' odd tall handle and is made of solid heavy duty stainless steel and is a two piece travel version. You can get cheaper aluminium ones or even soft metal at the price you mention. Even the stainless steel metal detecting spades by Black Ada are about £55+ I believe you're getting confused with cheaper metal versions.
