Post by: barnie12 on May 21, 2014, 05:37:08 PM
I have a coil cover with my ace 250 is it for use whilst detecting or just to protect the coil when stored

It's for use while detecting, to stop the coil getting scratched

Think of it as a coil protector.  8)

Yes Mike as Chris says it is used to protect the base of the coil from getting damaged when you are detecting,When you go onto stubble fields the coil gets quite a hammering from the sharp stalks and stones,so keep the coil cover on all the time. The cost of replacing the coil cover when it wears out is nothing compared to a new coil.

Also keep in mind that fine sand and dirt can find it's way between the coil and the cover and perhaps give you a false signal if it has any metallic elements in it. I use a C-Scope CS4PI for beach detecting on wet sands and occasionally remove the cover and clean both the coil and the cover.  :)
