Title: Re: Identify / advise how to clean Post by: Val Beechey on April 22, 2014, 09:54:20 PM It's a bit of a long shot Jim but try some Coca-Cola or some lemon juice or both. Soak over night and rub over next day and start again. Can be a long job but might work.

it will ruin the coin (it will go pink) but you will be able to see anything on the coin Title: Re: Identify / advise how to clean Post by: Meatslicer on April 23, 2014, 01:28:28 AM If you want to see any detail on the surface its best to soak for a few day in olive oil. Dry it and shine a light from the side/edge to show up surface ridge detail. If you clean off all the dark copper corrosion material you wont see anything except copper shining.
Also something to try is rub over with a very soft lead pencil. this will fill any holes and show up ridges. Only do this on badly damaged coins though.
