Heya guys tried foil baking soda

Would like to no what it is or try to clean it better really damaged

foil and soda for silver that don't look very well at all , looks like copper or bronze , im afraid its dead mate  :'( :( , not worth the effort of cleaning it up

It's a bit of a long shot Jim but try some Coca-Cola or some lemon juice or both. Soak over night and rub over next day and start again.  Can be a long job but might work.

if you want to know what it is out of curiosity  use cillit bang overnight then a gentle brush with a toothbrush
it will ruin the coin (it will go pink) but you will be able to see anything on the coin

If you want to see any detail on the surface its best to soak for a few day in olive oil. Dry it and shine a light from the side/edge to show up surface ridge detail. If you clean off all the dark copper corrosion material you wont see anything except copper shining.

Also something to try is rub over with a very soft lead pencil. this will fill any holes and show up ridges. Only do this on badly damaged coins though.

You can get some detail to show up by rubbing with an eraser, I did it on a 1769 George 111 penny worked a treat. ;)

Yes spot on John though it must be an ink eraser, brings out the high points a treat ;)
