Title: Gold coins clod shot.(10/4/14)
Post by: Doug on April 10, 2014, 03:12:46 PM
Field of choice, not finished being ploughed. (tractor broke down yesterday!)

So elected to go into a small grass field, wise move.

Yes George the 4th 1828, that is the one where you can see the edge of the coin in the clod shot.

Great result Doug  - I take it you know that the George IV sovereigns are quite  desirable amongst collectors due to the relative low mintages.

Two in one hole is just plain greedy! I'm presuming you checked the hole again after the second one? ::)

Congratulations on a great find

Neil

Thanks Neil

1899 map shows two fields plus footpath crossing them from the village, now one field, coins found in what would have been two separate fields.

What a cracking day out for you.

I'm always amazed by the number of half sovereigns that people have dropped in the past - especially given their relatively high worth. Only found one so far myself, but I live in hope for another! :)

Thanks, I am sure the relativity small size of the coin may have something to do with the numbers we find?
