dropped it and broke the switch now i have to press down hard and keep pressing while i search .if i take finger off the button it switches off .
is there anyone who repairs garrett pro pointers in the uk or would i be better off selling it on ebay as faulty and letting someone else have it who can repair it
any advice appreciated.i bought it 6 months old off ebay so warrenty wise i dont have leg to stand on.shame as it works fine if i keep finger on it !!

Hi Chantal. There are one or two members who have replaced the on/off switch. From what they've said it's very fiddly. You can but switches on the Bay but personally I wouldn't mess with it.

Maybe someone will volunteer. ::)

p.s. I dropped my battery pack on the tiles in the kitchen and thought I'd bugged it up but after a bit of messing around it      seems o.k. again.

very tricky to replace , I broke me on /off switch trying to clean pointer ,, :(  , seen they ere about 5 quid on the bay for a new switch ,, thought do I really want to mess with it going by past experience ,, ended up buying new pointer so now ive got 1 and a half ;D

also did it come with the receipt chan?

no i dont recall a reciept it was a private seller not a big business seller and it wasnt brand new when i bought it :(

I did mine with a new switch from ebay, it was a bugger of a job and I have a past in electronic repair. The switch is soldered to the board with 6 very small tags and you have to de solder them with a very small soldering iron tip and then put the new one in, I managed it but I think I was lucky. You have to slide the board out very carefully so you dont snap the wire and it can be difficult getting it back in. Like I said I did mine and it works ok. If you have some experience in repairing stuff its worth having a go as the switch is only a fiver and your pointer is buggered anyway so if it doesnt work out your no worse off.

no but if it was 6 months old when you bought it its still got getting on for 15 months guarantee left to run so would be fixed in warranty.
when i sold one i posted the reciept with it so the warranty was transfered.

I didn't think accidental damage was covered by warranty repairs?

iv bought a switch of ebay and a friend who works in electronics  is going to have a go fitting it so hopefully ill get it up and running

I've repaired my on/off switch on my pro pointer it is fiddlie but do-able.
 I had to buy a narrow tip soldering iron from Screw Fix but it was only about £8,
after you remove the old switch by heating the pins and pulling on the switch
with a pair of pliars you need to remove to remaining solder from the pin holes
you can get a gizmo to suck the molten solder from the holes, ;) I don't know how
much they cost, I used a hot sewing needle to clean out the holes and replaced
 the new switch then solderd it in place job done.

                                   Likely as not, you may break the new switch as you try to replace the pcb inside the ProPointer. There is also the possibility that you may damage the pcb as you try to replace the switch. Having broken the switch on my ProPointer; I eventually approached Tony Perez, of the Isle of White, and he replaced my broken switch for £25.00. The cost also covered return postage and packaging. A lot cheaper than buying a new ProPointer!  ;)

my friend paul repaired it today ,it didnt look easy he had to remove the old 6 pin ,clean out the holes and refit the new one it took a good 30 mins and was fiddley . ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
i bought a switch of ebay on friday and it arrived today so not only do i have a brand new one but my old one is back up and running.only problem is i accidently broke the led light getting the circuit board back in the casing (but who really needs the light anyway)
anyways ill take both to the rally tomorrow in case anyone needs to borrow my old one
