Title: Which is better?
Post by: NEMESIS on March 15, 2014, 09:07:16 PM
Hi.  Im in the process of looking at a whites XLT, and a minelab xsa2 pro. (is this as good as a soveriegn)?
what do you feel would be the better buy please?     I will be using mainly on the beaches but once I join a club or get a permission I will be using in a field also.
Am I better off getting dedicated machines, or would one of them outperform the other as an allrounder?
What sort of prices would I be expected to pay for these secondhand?
Ive already got 2 Garrett 250 aces (package deal).  so would I be better off keeping that for the fields and then the minelab for beach.  etc?
 Thanks for your help..

If your going to use it on the beach then there is only one choice and that's the XS-2a Pro which by the way is a Sovereign (2nd version) and still thought by many as the best version made.
It will do you grand on most inland sites too just take a look at the inland finds made by Celticspikey and Mike.
As for price I would expect to pay around the £350 mark ;)

Also xlt is not good on the wet sand. Dfx is better.  Xs2a pro is the one for the beach.

Aparently the xlt can work quite well on wet sand but it needs to be ground balanced when switching from dry to wet and tweak the settings a bit but it will not out perform the xs2a it is very different to the garrett ace 250 aswell so will take some getting used to.

Sorry as Andy say's the XLT won't work quite well on the wet, work yes but your sensitivity is minimal, there has never been a VLF machine made that works as well on beaches as the Sov's end of.
Once you have used a Sov on the wet sand and been lucky enough to dig rings from around 10" using a single frequency machine that you know is not punching past about 5" is just soul destroying and seems like a total waste of time ;)

  Thanks everyone for your advice.
Yes I think from my own little research (boy does it go on and on) and from your experiences I gotta agree with you, so have decided Im definately going to go for a  SOV.
I totally agree with you CHEF,  that blutty GARETT 250 is doing my swede in, and decided to definately upgrade  ASAP as its no point in wasting anymore time.  BADGERS gonna end up with all the gold.  LOL.
Im still waiting to hear from one that I e-mailed so here's to fingers crossed.
            Thanks again.
  Shaun.
