Title: whites eagle spectrum
Post by: adt69 on March 10, 2014, 12:29:17 PM
Hi all
Now I have my blisstool I have decided to sell the whites eagle.
It is a very good machine takes a bit of learning and sure gets good depth.
There is a small problem with it, the middle stem where it conne ts to the top stem the holes where the wingnut goes through are a bit worn but its ok when connected together. £135 posted a bargain.

I'd hang on to it just in case you can't get on with bliss tool mate.

Good luck with the blisstool, but I agree with Alun , hang on to your whites just incase. Cheff Geoff
once told me to stick to one machine and really learn it. Thats sound advice from an old man ;D
and if he didn't tell me then he should have ::) ;D

Thanks for the advice but I am going to take the chance and learn the blisstool, the pasture I am on is very deep and I have a feeling there is something down there worth finding. So open to offers on the whites, need to replace the cash I have spent.

Probably a stupid question, but any idea what its like compared to the GARRETT 250?    Is it a field only tector?
Ill be honest, I gotta be careful I dont end up with dectectors everywhere, did the same with my motorbikes and now I got 4 sitting in the garage.  LOL.
I'll probably go down the minelab etrac. elite route but was wondering if it worth me picking this whites up and getting rid of the Garretts for now?

Oh it's head and shoulders above the 250 and it will work on wet sand, it's the model that Terry Herbert was using when he found the Staffordshire Hoard. It came out nearly 25 years ago now and was the first really programmable machine, a fact that I still have nightmares over lol, my advice to anyone starting to use one is...set it then cut your fingers off to stop yourself playing with the settings ;D

It is one of the best machines I have owned it does go deep.
Only selling as I need to funds to pay back the blisstool, like I said open to offers.

Yes still in a different league, if I had to put it somewhere in the current line-up then it's up there with Xterra 705, Omega 8000, Fisher 70 ;)

So on that note then chef, am I better of going for it and then get a minelab aswell, as  a main tector  later on?  or save my pennies?    Is it good in the water?  or just wet sand?

The Whites ia a great machine, I loved the one that I had, only one negative it is a lot heavier than the Garrett

To be honest i really do want it but will have to sell the euro ace first which i doubt will take too long

If you want a quick, cheap but big step up then yes go for it, most machines will work "in" water even if they are bad on wet sand, the spectrum can be used in most environments because you can adjust so much on it ;)

The Whites Eagle Spectrum is a metal detecting classic and a forerunner to the Spectrum XLT, another classic. Both are still very good machines despite their age.

Certain machines tend to get a cult following and the Eagle and XLT fit that.  The DFX and V3i followed them, but many will argue the earlier machines were better.

I would start off in coin and jewellery just to get to understand the machine but you can quickly move on, here's a program that I just found on the net...
Select Jewelry/Beach, push enter, push enter to air balance waist level, push enter to ground balance, then push MENU and make the following settings:

BASIC ADJUSTMENTS:

Volume 59
Threshold 01
Tone Adjust 231
Audio Disc ON
Silent Search OFF
Mixed Mode Audio OFF
AC Sensitivity 70
DC Sensitivity 3
Backlight OFF

PRO OPTIONS:
Audio:
SAT ON
SAT Speed 8
Tone ID OFF
VCO ON
Absolute value OFF
Modulation ON
GEB/Trac:
Auto Trac ON
Trac View ON
Trac Speed ON
Trac Offset 0
Trac Inhibit OFF
Manual GEB Auto
Discriminition:
Edit Standard Jewelry Beach
Block Edit Standard Jewelry Beach
Learn OFF
Recovery Speed 22
Bottlecap reject 03
Display:
Visual Disc. ON
Labels ON
VDI 88
Ground ID OFF
Spectrum Options:
Accumulate ON
Average ON
Fade Rate 11
Signal (transmit/receive):
High Transmit power ON
Low Transmit power OFF
Transmit Frequency 4
Preamp Gain 8

Squeeze and release trigger, push enter, push enter to air balance, push enter to ground balance

To save these settings: Push MENU, push enter, select Custom Program 1 or 2, push enter, select SAVE, push enter. These settings will then be saved in that custom slot you selected.

Now you can see why I still have nightmares :D :D

For its age its a dam good machine and will put a lot of these £300/£400 machines to shame.

Al technology is exactly the same now as it was in 1974 it's marketing that sells machines not innovations ;)
