Post by: hoover-G on February 15, 2014, 02:47:36 PM
Any help on these markings please. Had this for about an year now silver snuff - pill box and I've searched high and low trying too find out what these stamps are and never got anywhere. It sits on my top shelf and is the only thing that hasn't been identified it's been eating at me to find out. Thanks

swiss use ducks as a silver mark , cant tell you anything else as the star thing i dont recognise i think the italians use the star , but it would not make sense to have a swiss and italian stamp or would it ??

webbed feet under the ducks. On close inspection above the ducks maybe a letter above each duck.  Hard too see it in pictures but it may read A.R.H, H.A.R, R.H.A

I was thinking the same....... it may be gold gilt in side, or just the metal its made of and silver plated out side, a lot of them are.

right so I've tested it again to be sure with my caratest solution inside and the outer case and it tells me it's silver.  ;)

My eye glass shows the letters I mentioned. The stain colour you see inside is most probably cause by what was kept in the case snuff etc.

Rare one then lol. Another strange thing was that I showed a guy who deals antiques back in the summer and the only thing he said after he had his eye glass out was its very nice and offered me a number of purple £20 notes which offcourse I declined as I was curious to why he never gave me any info on it just wanted too buy it  ???

If anyone does positive identify what they see then there's a paid rallie in it for them. And I don't mean made in the Swiss by an Italian guy who's initials is A.R.H lol  ;D

we may be halfway there with the letters however I can't seem to find a star inside a star that matches mine surely there's another silver item with the same stamps out there

Been all over it pal. Only other marks are 3 vertical lines scratched by purpose in the  corner off the lid and the same in the corner above the the stamps shown. No other letters or stamps than what's shown in pictures.  I'm going too email a few swiss and Italian silversmiths with the pictures maybe they will get back too me
