Title: A great day out
Post by: 150aceboy on January 20, 2014, 06:01:07 PM
The Love Doc and myself spent yesterday detecting in beautiful sunshine.

The first of our fields were very waterlogged and impossible to detect, muddy, slippery, wellies getting stuck etc.

So we headed for another field, this one still had the remnants of the overnight frost and it was nice and dry, so we set up and headed in different directions.

Within in 10 mins Doc came over, holding a cracking Victoria Penny, so things were off to a good start.

After the first hour we had both found Georgian coins, predecimals, bits and bobs, and the dreaded scrap.

Anyway we decided it was time for a cuppa.

After our little break, within in minutes i had a signal, not the best of signals, but decided it worthy of a dig. After digging to the full depth of my pro pointer, i nearly give up thinking it was iron lol.

I eventually got a signal with my pro pointer and  knowing i was near the target i carefully eased the soil away with my trowel.

At last a glint of silver in the hole. I shouted over to Doc, guess what butty ? another Hammie.

Its an Elizabeth 1st Three Pence.

Well i could'nt believe my luck, 3 trips out and each time found a hammie  ;D ;D

Doc also found an excellent Joey and Sixpence in remarkable condition, well done Doc mate.

Can't wait for our next outing, Doc you'll get a hammie next time i promise mate  ;D ;D

Paul  ;)

It's difficult to judge the size from the photo, but as Legio11 says it could be one of a pair of weights off a grandfather clock

Cracking hammered :)  Well found.  What size is the weight ?

Thanks all  ;)

The weight is about the same thickness as a pencil and about 4.5" in length, irregular hexogon profile, its heavy for its size, bronze or brass material.

Unusal item  ??? puzzled the both of us

Cheers Paul  ;)

Never thought of a plumb bob, you could well be right there m8
A clock weight was mentioned, but i think its a touch small.
Thanks Paul  ;)

There is a rough edge on the bottom end, that looks like something may have broken off.
I'll get Doc to post a picture of the end.
Cheers Paul  ;)
