Think weight and length as well, my boy was 9 when he tried, I had to take out the middle stem of my dfx for him,

Hi
I have owned a Garrett before I think they are not that good, just over hyped machines,

There have been some quality things  found by DW members with the Garrett, just ask
G I Jan and Sharkey. Admittedly they use or used the Garrett 250, But as a starter machine
the 150 should be fine, as long as not used on wet sand.

How much are you looking to spend, I have a Garrett 150 with box, instructions, coil cover, control box cover, 2 sets of headphones (unused). its only been used about a dozen times.

Got a 250 for my 8 year old, does well with it on ploughed but falses to often to rely on the ID, have torun my DFX over to be sure before digging.
Technics have a few affordable units, along with Whites.
