Title: Some more finds from Germany
Post by: LostyetFound on January 13, 2014, 08:47:02 PM
Hi Guys,

as requested by many of you. Here some more finds I made in Germany (and one in Italy). Not the usual stuff. For viewing enjoyment, but if anybody can help me identify them, that would be even better.... :D

Ornate buckle - found in the woods.
One-sided medal "TAG DER ARBEIT 1934" (with signage of the ruling government at the time) -> not trying to annoy anybody :-\
Religious Pendant - any idea what century?
Italy find - Silver Eagle 1 Dollar (made of Aluminum) - Token or game piece??? WW II?

thanks and enjoy

Hi,and welcme to DW.
The alloy dollar would have been issued to GI's in the war, they still issue plastic money to service men on tour overseas they can trade them at millitery bases in the country where they are serving hope this helps? And thanks for the pix.

Some interesting finds you have there. Tag Der Arbeit?  ( May 1st, Labour Day. ) Interestingly, 1934 was the same year that Adolf Hitler took on the title of "Fuhrer" following the death of Hindenburg.

Do you have a picture of the back of the 1934 item? The last one that I saw had a pin fitting for affixing to ones lapel. I believe it may be made from pressed bronze could have a makers mark on it.

Hi Guys,

thanks for the feedback on these finds, your warm welcome to DW Forum and the additional information about the 1934 medal as well as the american dollar token.

Christoph1945,: the medal says Tag der Arbeit 1934. And it is only a one-sided medal. It looks like something (a pin) may have been attached to it, the back of the medal is simply the embossed side of the design but it also shows a number "4" which I have not noticed before as well as some writing along the bottom (on back side) which I cannot read because it is too dirty and I need additional magnification (bad eyes) which I do not have to my avail at this moment.

Thanks for the reference picture. Isn't internet a great invention?

Hi ,
I was interested to see the Nazi badge as I have one  exactly the same but in good condition as it was not a detecting find. I had a contact in Germany who was interested in English coins many years ago so I sent a few of my duplicate milled silver coins. As a thank you they sent me the badge which I think they told me was worn by workers in factories and farms but it is very thin copper and I can't work out how it was fixed. It doesn't have any fixing point but has a very rough edge so it must have had a back to it, I can't imagine it lasting long in the ground.

                                                       Pat ;) ;)

I tried to read the imprinted lettering, but I can't read it. . Also I believe that there must have been a pin attached to it where the metal has some discoloration. Maybe it recently broke off shortly before I found it...?

Here is a picture of one in better condition; are you able to translate the inscription on the back?

All very interesting and 'Macho' but I like the buckle better.  It's in great condition and very pretty. Looks like Georgian 1700's.  Nice find.  Wonder what the owner was doing in the woods  :o ;)

Hi Val Beechey,

the buckle is nice. I like it too. BTW its 6 cm long an 4,5 tall. Thanks for you guess of date. I really don't know how old it could be.  But anywhere from 100 - 200 years I would have thought....

Hey Christoph1945,

thanks for the clear shot of your medal. It says, that it was issued by the REICHSVERBAND (a section of the powers to be) in the city of Pforzheim (a city in southern Germany) followed by a number (probably the number of the particular secton issuing the medal).

Mine does not seem to say Pforzheim. It also does not seem to have a number following in. It rather has a number 4 imprinted on it. But I can't read what it says to the right of the cross. on the left hand side, my find also reads REICHSVERBAND. Thanks to your image I can compare it and read it now.  ;)

However, my assumption about the fastening is correct. It did jus  have a simple clasp attached to the back.

At that size probably a Ladies. Is it silver ?  Here's some similar for you to look at.

Wow.... it looks like number 13 is nearly excactly what I found. Thanks for the info....  :)

it is not silver. (unfortunately) it looks like bronce with an iron shaft in the middle (that part of it is heavily rusted). as you can see in the picture.

Thank you Val.

Aaah, the picture that I posted is not of anything that I own, but is one that I hunted down on the internet so that you could see how an original medal looked ( in better condition )  :)
