Title: What machine do you use?
Post by: Neil on November 18, 2008, 08:41:44 PM
Just out of curiosity and to create debate.

You get out of your car on a wet Novembers morning, and you've been lucky having both ploughed and pasture ready for you to search. You go to the boot and reach in for your favourite machine - what do you pull out?

Come on lads and lasses of Detecting Wales.com!

Theres a 130 members and only 21 responses. I think it would be healthy for the site to see what everyone preference is.It can only help to inform and help each other with programmes and tips for your particular machine.

Cheers

My 1st machine was a Garrett Treasure ace 100
then a Minelab Abvantage pro and now an Exp 11
I like Minelabs because they have the most choice of models and because they sell in greater numbers then most manufacturers theres always a good selection of used machine and coils on Ebay  ;D

Last machine was an MXT, but for the last year been using a Teknetics T2. Very sensitive, and plenty of depth!

That's a bit unfair!
I use 2 machines but it depends on the land available.
I will use my XP for everything other than Stubble, if the field is in Stubble (Wheat) then I always use my MXT as it seems to cut through it better than the XP but for everything else including Maze Stubble I'll use the XP.

before my explorer 11 i had a fisher 1266x use to use it without headphones,  didn t have any when bought, i was  dect. without permission,  on a small field in usk, the noise it used to make without headphones was incredable, the farmer must have heard it as he was in the field above me , i heard him coming on his quad, so i ran like hell, being a very nervous novice,  ;D ;D

Just bought a T2 this year (tejon before that), have always steered away from screen machines in the past, big mistake, I wouldn't be without it now so many options for the ground you are searching!
wanted to go for an explorer in the past but didn't have the money (i did own a minelab with the metal box 12 years ago but that was before the minelab explosion with the explorer)

Started 15mths ago with a Sovereign, original model with switchable iron mask reinvented as GT. Then Ace 250 with 12x10 [ takes it to another level]. Fisher 1236x2, love its silence especially after running my main machine a T2 red hot for a few hours, its a welcome relief! I use all 4 for different sites or reasons and have just aquired a Minelab Relic Hawk to go axe hoard hunting in the hills next spring. Ian

My first machine was a Micronta that my mother brought back from holiday for me, total rubish but it gave me the bug, that was in 1975. I quickly followed that with:-
whites beachcomber 5
whites coinmaster 5
compass (something) lovely machine
fisher 1265x, found loads
bounty hunter
Tessorro eldorado, another lovely machine
whites spectrum (I'm still confused)
fieldmaster, it did what it said on the box
Minelab sovereign, x3
Garret Ace 250
and now I have a garrett seahunterII, still have a Sovereign elite and the Etrac.... And looking to get the Xterra 705 soon

The old fishing saying that "New tackle catches more fishermen than fish" i think might apply to me.

I use a Whites M6 with a S.E.F. coil , it seems to work well , and I get a much cleaner sound and greater depth than the original coil .

Minelab Quattro. Did,nt know wether to get a Quattro or a Explorer. Bought the Quattro cos it was cheaper but i loved the blue colour rather than the white explorer. Loved it ever since.

i think people have worked out minelab only want your money. the e-trac is turning out to be a right lemon there's loads for sale on the forums' and the new x-terras are nothing more than a rehash of the old terras.

Hi
I use the SAFARI with 15x12 sef coil,Ive not had chance to have much detecting and still getting used to it,from what I have heard I believe it to be a good all round detector although Ive not mastered it yet, also I cant  rate it on the beach as not been beach detecting at all, so when the winter comes anyone that goes beach detecting I would very much appreciate tagging along with someone and give it a go .
