Title: a sixpence and a coin from 1699!!
Post by: darrrren on December 27, 2013, 06:10:17 PM
WELL! i got my detector about a week ago now and been out with it 4 times, found lots of stuff. Anyway, i found a sixpence yesterday and some crusty old coin i nearly threw as it just wouldnt clean. Anyway, my electrolysis kit came off the net today so i thought id give it a go,the coin is slowly cleaning up,taken over half an hour but its bronze and i can now clearly see the date 1699! im well chuffed!

im not the coin is badly worn but its enoguhto see the date and the shape of the head to identify the ocin. after electrolysis do i need to do anything to the coin,it wont jut start to rot will it? When the missus gets back from work ill get her on photograph duty for me haha. Well chuffed i wasnt expecting it, i thought it was some crappy modern coin but i said to the missus yesterday it was too small to be a 2p and too big to be 1p.

make sure you dry coin properly ( place on rad for a while ) then get some of this off taff and apply to coin  .http://www.detectingwales.com/index.php?topic=18350.0 (http://www.detectingwales.com/index.php?topic=18350.0)

if in any doubt at all on a coin DONT CLEAN IT  , just wash gently to remove mud and get it an id on it , some coins can be worth a lot of money and heavy cleaning will ruin them .
