Only been detecting for about 2 and a half years so far. I have always had an interest in antiquities and history though. Far too many other hobbies to list them all, but they include following Cardiff City, Squash, Gym, Fine Wine, Good Books, Films, Travel, Diving, Snowboarding, Mountain Walking, Gardening, Music, etc, etc, Great idea to put faces to the names. I am 62 years old and have been detecting since 1966 lol :o I have used all the main types of detectors except for the new XP range Currently using the Explorer II plus S.E.F 15 X12 Coil to very good effect. My other main hobby was/is Ham Radio and i hold the callsigns MW5VZW/GW6VZW.Although currently not active. I was in Nursing Proffesion for over 30 years and Engineering before that. I am Health and Safety Trained and did retire last year but because of poor pension am now working as a Business area cleaner locally a lot less stress free lol Have managed to recover from a blood clot on the lung and will be going in shortly for a cataract removal as i am almost blind in my right eye lol. Post by: bymatt666 (byron) on November 19, 2008, 12:13:15 AM i'm byron...68 years young..a retired electrician....been detecting about four and a half years.....i belong to R.A.R.E and try to get out swinging as often as possible..my workmates bought me a bounty hunter as my retirement present but i have moved on to an explorer......this is my "slow" hobby...my "fast" hobby is marshalling at motor racing circuits all over the country...i have done this for 22 years and have been privileged to have marshalled at 21 british F1 grands prix...as long as i stay fit+well i intend to continue with both hobbies !!.. ;D

Ive been Detecting now 10+ years after a chance meeting with the then Chairman of Rare,s wife Its only in the last few years ive been able to get more involved with Detecting as a strange twist of fate i owned the shop where Tony Maz later had his Detecing shop In Ynyshir. My background is in Transport and logistics . I Started working for Pony Express as a Motorcycle Courier then went on to lorrys Class 2 then Class 1 after 2 failed Courier and multi-drop Business,s and a string of market stalls a Pound shop and a Motorcycle Tuning/repair/Importing Business I decided self employment wasnt for me lol Later years ive been supervisor in a cleaning company and a school Caretaker My Interests include Caving,Hiking,Climbing,Motorcycles,History anything Roman,coin collecting and of cause Metal Detecting. I'm Dave. I am 61yrs old and live in Neath. I retired from the Police Service in 1995 after 32yrs. I have been detecting 18 years and currently use an Explorer ll. I get out detecting at least once a week and have had some good finds over the years. I am the Sec'. of the Swansea Club and have been for the last 10years for my sins. My other interests are DIY, used to do Radio Control Models and Wine making. Was good at making Babies as well, we had 3 and now got 8 Grandkids aged 1 to 20. Regards Dave Hughes |
